Information

The Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS) is the industry recognised route for engineers to gain a certificate of competence, which is needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register. Only members of the Gas Safe Register can work with gas in the UK.

You need to achieve your ACS certificate(s) in the areas of work in which you want to be registered.

COMCAT1 certification is designed to assess the competence of a gas engineer to install, service and repair commercial catering appliances including boiler burners, open/solid top ranges, hot plates and bain maries.

Areas covered:

  • Gas safety regulations and other relevant legislation
  • Checking the installation site
  • The gas connection and supply pipes
  • Securing the appliance correctly
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Tightness testing
  • Operating pressures
  • Commissioning and testing the appliance

Entry requirements

Learners will need to hold a valid:

  • Core Domestic Gas Safety (CCN1) certificate (including CPA1); or
  • Core Commercial Gas Safety (COCN1) certificate; or
  • Core Commercial Gas Laundry Safety (CCLNG1) certificate; or
  • Specific Core for Meter Installers – Natural Gas (CMA1) certificate; or
  • Core Domestic LPG Safety (CCLP1) certificate; or
  • Core Emergency Service Provider – Natural Gas (CESP1) certificate; or
  • Equivalent NVQ or QCF qualification

Details

You will need to bring with you:

  • Your name and address
  • Your National Insurance number
  • A passport-sized photograph
  • Copies of relevant qualifications and/or evidence of work experience
  • A declaration of the category for the individual making the application
  • First-time applicants will also be required to provide an acceptable form of photographic identification e.g. a passport or driving licence
