Information

This combined course is designed to provide qualified heating engineers with the skills and knowledge to install domestic solid wood-based biomass and solid fuel and wood heating systems.

An important element of this course is to understand the requirement to meet National Occupation Standards for competency for installation of domestic solid wood-based biomass heating systems. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) biomass standard covers installations with an output up to 45KWth

This BPEC training course can be used towards registration for Competent Persons Register (CPS), OFTEC, HETAS, APHC and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

This course is not regulated by OFQUAL.

Entry requirements

Learners must have:

  • A N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing certificate; or
  • A N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) certificate; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) certificate; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services certificate; or
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance certificate; or
  • An equivalent earlier certification of any of the above

Learners must also have Water Regulations/Water Byelaws, Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating and Unvented Hot Water if not included in the qualifications above.
