Information
This course is designed to provide electricians with the skills and knowledge required to install small scale photovoltaic (PV) systems.
It will enable learners to select the most appropriate solar PV system for a property to meet the client’s needs and to commission and handover the system. It will also provide an understanding of all the legal issues surrounding the installation of these systems and guidance on completion and submission of all the appropriate notifications.
This course has been designed with the intention of meeting the requirement of the National Occupational Standards and industry working groups.
The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.
Entry requirements
Learners must have:
- A Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment) (2357) certificate; or
- A Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance) (2357) certificate; or
- A Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification (5357) certificate; or
- A Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker (2356) certificate; or
- A Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services – Electrical Installation (Building and Structures) certificate; or
- A Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346) certificate; or
- A Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings certificate; or
- An EAL Building Services Engineering (Level 3) – Electrotechnical Installation certificate; or
- Equivalent historical qualifications; or
- An ECS Gold Card (for domestic electrician), JIB Electrician (Not PAT tester only) or Approved Electrician Card
Learners must also have a BS 7671: 2018 Requirements for Electrical Installations (18th Edition) qualification

- A passport-sized photograph
- Copies of relevant qualifications and/or evidence of work experience
- A declaration of the category for the individual making the application
- First-time applicants will also be required to provide an acceptable form of photographic identification e.g. a passport or driving licence
