Information
This nationally recognised qualification designed to give learners the skills and knowledge required to correctly design, install and maintain air and ground source heat pump systems.
This course has been designed with the intention of meeting the requirement of the National Occupational Standards and industry working groups.
The qualification is recognised by the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.
Areas covered:
- Heat pumps in context
- How a heat pump works
- Insulation, heat losses and the effect of heating system design
- Domestic hot water, buffer tanks and solar coils
- Ground heat exchangers
- Health and safety
- Heat pump installation
- Maintenance and fault finding
Entry requirements
Learners must have:
- Completed a suitable Level 2 qualification; or
- Relevant experience and knowledge of the industry;

- A passport-sized photograph
- Copies of relevant qualifications and/or evidence of work experience
- A declaration of the category for the individual making the application
- First-time applicants will also be required to provide an acceptable form of photographic identification e.g. a passport or driving licence
